The term “Hatena” holds the meaning of “Question?” and used to express elements of surprise and curiosity.
Our essence lies in perpetual questioning and pondering—exploring the viability of concepts, contemplating what culinary delights to offer, devising ways to enhance customer satisfaction, and brainstorming our next exciting project.
Our aspiration is to extend this innovative journey throughout Australia and beyond in the times to come.

As a dynamic and youthful company, we harness the vigour and driving force within the hospitality industry. Our penchant for doing things a tad differently sets us apart, injecting authenticity into every aspect, be it the atmosphere or the overall vibe. OUR HISTORY
The Hatena Group is about people and the good times people have together. That is the foundation on which our venues are built on, and is what keeps it going today.
Despite a notable age gap of around 26 years between them, Chris, Tin, and Mitomo bring together a collective energy and passion that belies their years of experience in the hospitality industry. With just 8 years of combined experience, this dynamic trio embodies the spirit of Hatena, each contributing their unique talents and perspectives to the venture.
Chris, driven by a relentless hunger for marketing and promotion honed from his background in promotions, adds a vibrant energy to the team. Mitomo, the heart and soul of Hatena, infuses each service with his infectious enthusiasm and rhythm. Meanwhile, Tin brings precision and care to both the food and the team, ensuring that every dish served is crafted with the utmost attention to detail.
Their journey began with Tin and Mitomo’s humble beginnings at Yakitori Yurippi, a yakitori shop they opened together in 2015. It was here that they first crossed paths with Chris, a regular customer with a penchant for indulging in their offerings. Together, they dreamed of new ventures, fueled by their shared passion for Japanese cuisine and culture.
Chris, Tin, and Mitomo have broadened their culinary repertoire, from Izakayas to ramen joints to sports bars, and have now established six diverse restaurants across Sydney. Each venue stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences while staying true to their core values.
Their journey is far from over, as they strive to bring the spirit of Japanese food culture to even more corners of Sydney, forging new connections and spreading joy one meal at a time.
